695 Attacks on Kurdistan: Iran's Assault Before and During the Ceasefire
Since the outbreak of the U.S.–Israel war with Iran on February 28, the Kurdistan Region has faced 695 drone and missile attacks. A new CPT report breaks down the targets, casualties, and the striking shift in attack patterns after the April 8 ceasefire.

Since the outbreak of the U.S.-Israel war with Iran on February 28, 2026, the Kurdistan Region has faced 695 attacks by Iran's IRGC and Iran-linked groups in Iraq, according to monitoring group CPT.
Of these, 647 attacks or 93% took place before the April 8 ceasefire, while 48 attacks or 7% occurred during the ceasefire period from April 8 to April 24.
Before the ceasefire, most attacks targeted U.S. diplomatic and military facilities in the Kurdistan Region, with 277 attacks (40%). Iranian Kurdish opposition party bases and camps were targeted 146 times (26%) while other targets including civilian, official, Peshmerga, energy, residential, and non-combatant sites were targeted 224 times (33%).
During this period, the IRGC carried out 31.8% of attacks, while Iran-linked groups were responsible for 68.2%.
After the ceasefire, the pattern shifted. Of the 48 attacks recorded from April 8 to April 24, the IRGC was responsible for 75%, while affiliated groups carried out 25%. Most attacks during this period targeted Iranian Kurdish opposition parties: 37 attacks, or 77.1% of the total. Peshmerga and civilian sites were attacked seven times (14.6%), while U.S. facilities were targeted only four times (8.3%).
Across the full period from February 28 to April 24, Iran directly carried out 34.8% of all attacks, while Iran-linked groups in Iraq carried out 65.2%.
By governorate, Erbil was hit hardest with 544 attacks (78.3%), followed by Sulaimani with 123 (17.7%), Duhok with 22 (3.2%), and Halabja with 6 (0.8%).
By type, the attacks included 551 suicide drone attacks, 131 missile attacks, 12 shelling attacks, and one shooting attack.
Of the 695 drone and missile attacks, 407 were intercepted or neutralized before reaching their targets, meaning 58.6% were stopped.
The attacks caused 123 casualties, including 22 killed and 101 wounded. Material damage included more than 67 homes or residential sites and 45 civilian vehicles.
